Saigay Sherrif

Designer / Maker

Hello! My name is Saigay Sheriff. I am a recent a graduate of Culinary Institute of America with degrees of Bachelor of Professional Studies in Business Management and Associate Occupational Studies in Baking and Pastry Arts.

Growing up as a Liberian – American with a parent who is a folk-art artist, food and culture has always been a huge aspect of my life. During my teenage years, I realized my curiosity for culinary art was a passion and decided to pursue this career path. During my studies at Culinary Institute of America, I interned at Colonial Williamsburg Virginia, was elected as secretary of the Black Culinarian Society group on campus, and also given the opportunity to be the head pastry chef of my senior event course. I learned valuable lessons such as how and what it takes to be a leader, and how to work in a team.

Aside from school, I am a frequent volunteer at the Philadelphia Folklore Project, where we work to sustain vital and diverse living cultural heritage in communities. I also help teach both youths and adults African dance lessons with the Liberian Culture Dance Troupe and help organize events for the community. My goal is to share my knowledge and make a difference in someone else's life, starting with making them a great meal.

Food is a huge aspect of life and is the base of every culture. One dish has the ability to explain multiple parts of a culture, and that is what I desire to share. I am constantly in the kitchen, cooking, baking and learning how to make different meals in order to share with others.
