JEANNE VAN HEESWIJK'S FIXINGS

Jeanne van Heeswijk sees herself as a mediator, an intermediary between a situation, a space, a neighbourhood, and the people connected therewith. Encountering and communicating are key concepts in her practice. She only acts once the nuances of the context have been thoroughly determined. New interspaces and crossovers are then generated, within which new relationships and connections can be established between groups of people, institutions, and conceptual frameworks that vary greatly. The artist has coined the term ‘urban curating’ for her interventions. Regardless of the terminology, her practice intends to improve neighbourhoods and empower the locals to design their own future.
