Yallah Sabaya

Bak basis, Pauwstraat 13A, 3512 TG Utrecht, Jun 2019

After the success of the first edition, Yallah Sabaya is back!
Yallah Sabaya, meaning in Arabic 'Come ladies! Enjoy yourselves!', is a special evening just for women, an evening where dance and music connect women from around the world.

All women, from every country or culture, are welcome to meet, chat and dance.
Yallah Sabaya is organized by Welkom in Utrecht, De Voorkamer, and BAK, basis voor actuele kunst.

As this is a night for you to relax and enjoy we ask not to bring children, but your female friends very welcome.

Yallah Sabaya is a sister-event of Yallah Yallah, Ekko

Yallah Sabaya kicks off a special weekend at BAK. On Friday 21 June, we will warm up the space with Yallah Sabaya, and the BAK Fellows will take it away on Saturday 22 June during the culmination of this year’s post-academic Fellowship Program. This evening program consists of performances, music, installations, hosted space, dancing, bites, and celebration, created together with the BAK 2018/2019 Research Fellows.

This edition of Yallah Sabaya is part of the series BAK, basis voor…, in which BAK joins forces with other organizations in addressing shared urgencies and developing propositions for “being together otherwise.” It takes place within the context of the forthcoming project Trainings for the Not-Yet, initiated by artist Jeanne van Heeswijk and BAK from September 2019–January 2020.

In the series BAK, basis voor…, BAK joins forces with other organizations in addressing shared urgencies and developing propositions for “being together otherwise.” The series is part of the preparatory phase of the forthcoming project Trainings for the Not-Yet, organized by artist Jeanne van Heeswijk and BAK from September 2019–January 2020. This project consists of an exhibition as a series of “community learnings,” performative workshops, artworks, learning objects, and conversations. In the framework of this project, intensive collaborations with (inter)national artists, theorists, and activists take place, as well as collaborations with initiatives and communities based (mainly) in Utrecht.

As part of the series BAK, basis voor…, BAK currently collaborates with Extinction Rebellion Utrecht, New Women Connectors, De Voorkamer, Utrecht and Welkom in Utrecht.
